Twitter may be nearing its ninth birthday, but many people still haven’t mastered the art of tweeting. Are you doing it right? What about your business? Luckily, the people over at Passion Digital have done their research and have created the infographic below so you can learn how to use Twitter to get the most benefit you can.

To master using Twitter either for personal use or for your business, the first place to start is with your profile page. Make sure you’re using a good profile photo — don’t put up a picture that’s pixelated or one where you can’t tell what’s going on. Keep in mind, some screens will cut off parts of your background and cover photo, so make sure you’re putting any key information in the top left.

Once you’ve set up your profile, start tweeting! Of course Twitter already limits your characters, but if you keep posts even shorter, people will be able to re-tweet and add their own content. If you’re using Twitter for business, both Passion Digital and Inc.com recommend that you use the 80/20 rule — post 80% of the time providing information and building relationships with your followers. The following 20% should be promotional or about your business.

Check out the infographic for other tips and rules such as posting pictures and when the best time and day of the week to tweet are. Make sure you do some research before you just blindly take control and start posting — you never want to post something haphazardly that you can’t take back! Good luck and happy tweeting!
